Cataracts

A cataract is a very common eye condition that can affect the young and the old

Cataract surgery is one of the most common procedures that we perform

A common eye condition, particularly in older people, is when the clear lens inside the eye which focusses light on to the retina becomes cloudy – a cloudy lens is called a cataract and you can find out more about them here.

While ageing is the most common cause of cataract it can also result from birth defects, trauma to the eye, diseases like diabetes and by using medications like steroids.

The most common symptom of cataracts is blurred vision. Less common is a reduction in colour vision, seeing haloes around lights or double vision. A frequent change in your glasses prescription could also be an indication of cataracts.
